ECA is Dedicated to Zero Discharge in PennsylvaniaECA is Dedicated to Zero Discharge in Pennsylvania State and federal agencies are concerned about the large quantities of treated water flowing back into our rivers and streams and encouraging companies to recycle their wastewater. Energy Corporation of America (ECA) is an industry leader in protecting the environment and working continuously to improve our operations. We are committed to being a responsible, environmentally safe operator and dedicated to being a “zero discharge” company. The drilling industry in Pennsylvania is reusing and recycling on average more than 70 percent of its water. While this is a huge accomplishment, ECA recycles virtually 100% of all our fluids (i.e. flowback water, produced water and drilling fluids) on every horizontal well. In 2010, ECA generated 431,093 bbls of total fluid from our drilling activities. Of that total, we disposed of 677 bbls and recycled 430,416 bbls. That equates to a total recycling rate of 99.84%. As a result of our recycling efforts, we have eliminated 1,000 truck loads or 250,000 ton miles per well on the roads in Pennsylvania. This process has enabled us to reduce our impact on the environment and reinvest the additional funds into our drilling operations. Water use and water disposal will continue to be challenging issues that we face as an industry and ECA is committed to being a leader in recycling and treating all of our wastewater on site with zero discharge. |
